So I'm still new to this, and excited about participating! I will keep an eye on the thread, but do we want to PM the person we will be sending the blanket on to?

What you do is send me a PM when you're done with your section. I'll get in touch with the next knitter to ensure they are ready for the blanket. There have been a couple of instances where I had to find a pinch knitter because life threw a monkey wrench in someone's routine.

Anyhow, the person I PM responds to me to let me know that they are ready, and then I get back with you and provide you with that person's address.

Consider me the middle man.

Is there a color scheme chosen for Lollipop?

Hmmm...I'm not sure what people are going to use. Generally, you take a look at what's been used and try to coordinate accordingly. But, if others use pastels, you might want to use a pastel. The great thing about these blankets is that things don't have to really match up...hence the name "Oddball."

Heads up...

I'm going to go through my Charity yarn stash and will be casting on some new blankets within the next few days, as time allows me.

Keep checking for more news...I will post a request for volunteers as soon as I have more information...

I would love to CO a new blanket -- I have a pink & brown varigated that I would like to name "Chocolate Covered Cherries" if I might. Or something with teal/turquoise and brown yarns to be named -- "Beach Blanket Baby" (or some other name). Any thoughts?

It will have to wait a few days as I slipped and fell down my front steps Tuesday night -- smacking my left elbow & left ankle and spraining my right ankle. Praising God I didn't break anything since I was on duty (& will be until this evening), just been very interesting trying to do my duties.

I'm sorry about your fall, Penny. How fortunate that you didn't sustain more serious injuries!

I'll take you up on the offer to cast on! Thanks!

Here's some information, originally posted by Sandy in a KH thread, regarding starting blankets:

Quote:
STARTING AN ODDBALL BLANKET
If you are the first knitter on an Oddball Baby Blanket, here is what you need to do.

Before you start, purchase some SOFT 100% acrylic yarn.
(Here are some recommended yarns for our project.)

If your blanket is a Preemie Blanket, your yarn should be dk/sportweight, and will be cast on with size 5 or 6 circular needles. Cast on between 80 and 100 stitches.

If your blanket is a Regular Baby Blanket, yarn should be worsted weight, and will be cast on with size 7, 8 or 9 circular needles. Cast on between 90 and 110 stitches.

With either blanket, you will need to knit every stitch for the first 3 to 6 rows to make a nice garter stitch border. Then, you can use any design you want, making sure to have 3 knit stitches at the beginning and end of each row. Your knitting in the first section should measure about 4 1/2 inches when you are finished.

The best designs for our blankets are the ones that are reversible, since our blankets will be used by children and babies. Cables, cross-over, or twisted stitches do NOT work well. Ribbing or slip-stitch patterns are also a bad choice, because they tend to draw the blanket inward. The best designs for our baby blankets use simple knit and purl stitch combinations, which make the blanket lay nicely.
(Here are some recommended stitch designs for our blankets.)

When you finish knitting your section, do 1 row of all knit stitches on the wrong side, so the next knitter will be able to add their own yarn, and the color change will look nice.
(New colors should always be started on the right side.)

Leave the knitting needles attached, and place the blanket in a ziplock bag with the appropriate Oddball Memo folded up inside the bag with the blanket. (See the attached documents with this post. There is an Oddball Baby Blanket Memo and an Oddball Preemie Blanket Memo.)

You can also include a simple greeting card, and sign your name and list the state you live in, leaving room for the rest of the knitters to do the same.

If you include a card, choose one that is generic and happy. We should not say "Get Well" in the card, because sometimes these children do not get well. Also, avoid any religious statements, because the children and families at the hospital have many different beliefs. I usually choose a colorful card that is blank inside, and write, "We Care About You" on the inside.

If you have scrapbooking skills, you can MAKE a greeting card!

If you choose to include any gifts for the next knitter, please avoid any food products. Our packages occasionally get lost in the mail. (One time a blanket was lost for 6 months before turning up again!)

When mailing the package, please get DELIVERY CONFIRMATION, so we can track the package online. We don't want to lose our precious knitting!

Hmmmm -- pretty quiet in here!

I thought of another name for the second blanket -- Surf & Sand. I know we have done several blankets in blues, so if no one is interested it's okay!

While knitting at the beach this morning, I was watching the humpback whales surface for air, breach with these huge leaps, and smack their flukes on the water's surface. Wish they had been a bit closer to shore so I could have gotten pictures of them. I immediately tried to think of some way to tie knitting into what I was seeing. The whales are black, grey, and white and the water was in various shades of blue & white capped in some areas. Don't think knitting in black is a great idea for a baby's blanket, but some people like black a lot.
