Moderne Log Cabin Blanket - Garter Ridge Question
Hi,

Okay. The direction says:
Block 1: Using A, CO 76 sts. Knit 66 garter ridges. BO.
Block 2: Using B, Pick up 66 sts from the row ends along the right selvedge of Block 1. Note: Pick up one st from each row end. Knit 33 garter ridges. BO
Actually after typing the last directions, I think I figured it out, but I want to be sure, so here goes.

My original question was: Do, I suppose to do 66 sets of the garter ridge or 66 rows or the garter stitch. However, after reading the second Block, I think I am suppose to do 66 sets of the garter stitch which is 264 rows and then pick up 66 stitches - 1 stitch every 4th row.
Is this correct or am I still lost.
Thanks in advance for any help/clarification.

66 garter ridges would give you 132 rows. Each ridge would be the even row--where you're knitting on the ws.

I read the pattern, and I think you're supposed to do 66 ROWS of garter stitch. Then you pick up 66 stitches along one side, one for each row. It makes more sense if you're looking at the diagram.

Cute pattern, I'd love to see your finished blanket!

On second thought... maybe you are supposed to do 66 ridges (132 rows) and then pick up a stitch for every ridge along the side. I think that would give you a square for the first block, which appears to be what you're going for.

Hi ladies, Thanks for your help, but I still have a question.

I thought garter ridge was 4 rows.
Row 1 knit, row 2 purl, row 3 knit and row 4 knit. I got this from Vogue Knitting Quick Reference, that is how I got the 264 rows.
Now, the pattern does not call for any specific garter ridge, so if I can get away with thhe 132 rows, I will definitely jump on that.
If i do the 2 rows is that knit all rows?

Okay ladies, its me again. Your right. I went to ravelry to look at the blankets and look at the picture of the garter ridge in my book and I think it is just straight garter stitch at least thats what the finished blankets look like.
I hope that is right, because in a few minutes I am going to lunch and I will be starting.
Again, many thanks.

I made a log cabin baby blanket, and it was just knit every row, with 2 rows per ridge.

As you work it, knit every row, and you'll be able to count the ridges easily.
