Putting it all together.

I have been knitting now for only two years and every new project I try somethig new. This time I am making a toddler sweater and am now ready to put it the sleaves on. When I sewed the shoulders, I tried and tried but still did not get the nice seam I had hoped for. Does anyone have any hints, suggestions or other help?
