alternate cable cast-on with two colors...?

Is it possible to do alternate cable cast-on with two different colors? I've done a few stitches but i don't think its going to turn out right. I'm using black and white and i want the row of purls to be black and two knits of white in the front. But it seems like it will drag the black across the front.

Any way, i was wondering if its possible to do the alternate cable cast on with two colors. Or if any one has a prefered method they use when casting on with two different colors.

I usually have cast on in one color and then done two-color ribbing after that, but I believe the principle would be the same.

Your concern about the purl yarn going across the front can be avoided by putting the yarn to the back after purling, knitting your two whites, and then bringing the purl yarn back to the front for the next two.

This is what I've got. I think I'll have to mess with this a little bit more. I have a feeling i'm going to have to settle for something.

Aaaah--I see. With the cable cast on, you have to pass the yarn between the stitches and then, of course, it will pass in front.

Have you tried a knitted cast on? I wonder if it would do the same thing.

Or maybe you could cast on provisionally, work the rows in black and white and then bind off the first row black and white. That might work.

I don't think that it will give you ribbing, but you could cast on one needle with white and one with black with long tail cast on and then put them on another needle alternating back and forth.

I'm not happy with it because it seems like you should be able to do a two tone cable cast-on for two tone ribbing. I think i just got tired of doing cast-ons. Its for a hat, I'm sure it will be fine. Thanks for your help.
