HELLO FELLOW KNITTERS!!
I am SOOOOOOOOO happy to have found this forum! I am just learning how to knit - I've been "crafty" my whole life - mainly scrapbooking and paper crafts - although I love to cross-stitch as well. A good friend started a knitting project after hearing that Julia Roberts likes to knit So I wanted to try it too. It's actually very hard. But it's something to do while I do something else like sitting in waiting rooms, watching TV, listening to music or books on CD.

I can't wait to meet y'all (yep, "y'all" - I'm from southeastern VA).

If anyone knows of some really SIMPLE patterns, I'd like to make something other than a big, long, knitted "thing". Nothing too hard, tho - I will lose patience and get frustrated.

Thanks, guys!

I'm sure I'll enjoy checking out everyone's work. Like I said, I'm REAL new at this so not sure if I'm ready to try any really cool projects yet, but I'm gonna learn.....!

Welcome to KH, Spinderella!

You don't have to make a scarf, but it is best if you do knit a long skinny thing just to practice the the two stitches (knit and purl) and develop an even tension. You can make it more interesting by making a pattern of stitches on this rectangle, something that you might use for another project... something like -
  1. knit
  2. knit
  3. knit
  4. knit
  5. purl
  6. knit
  7. purl
  8. knit
  9. knit
  10. knit
  11. knit
then do some other combination like ribbing in which you knit and purl on the same row like knit2, purl 2, knit 2, purl 2, etc. It doesn't have to BE anything, but you'll learn a lot.

Also, do check out all the forums and get acquainted!

Hey Spinderella - -
I'm not new to the knitting thing, but new to the site. Just wanted to say Welcome to the knitting club! I've been knitting for almost 4 years now, and am just venturing to my first sock. I've done a lot of scarves, in every type of yarn you can imagine; one pair of felted mittens, a yet unfinished Teddy Bear Sweater...(but I'm on the hood), several prayer shawls, (Which I might suggest you try. K3, P3, using big needles), and all kinds of dishcloths. Knitting is a wonderful thing for me and I hope it will be for you too!
