"Anticipation" Jacket from Knitty

I'm looking for a pattern for a knitted jacket or cardigan, and I found the pattern for Anticipation in Knitty at this link: http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEwinter03/...icipation.html

I really love this jacket, but I can't really afford to spent almost $15 a ball on the Rowan Big Wool yarn it calls for. Has anyone made the jacket before? Is there a cheaper alternative for the yarn? Or is Big Wool worth the price?

You can use any yarn with the same gauge. The gauge on the Rowan is 9 sts/11 rows = 4" in stockinette stitch. So that makes it a bulky yarn (#6). So look for yarns in that gauge and you're good to go.

Here's a good place to start. Put in the weight you want and fiber if you want as well and see what comes up.
