Patons Stretch Sock Yarn

I tried searching previous posts but couldn't find much about the quality of this yarn... I saw it in Hobby Lobby, and it interested me. The elastic seems like a good idea, but the more I felt it the more doubts I got about buying it (Not sure why. Maybe the different texture...?)

Any comments about it would be much appreciated! I'm curious on how it knits up and what the finished socks feel like.

I've not used that yarn, but I have knit with a cotton yarn with elastic in it. It's 98.3% cotton and 1.7% elastic. I've made several pair of sock with it and am currently working on a T shirt using it. I really like it for socks though it's definitely not as soft as wool.
I like the machine washability and the socks look tiny after they come out of the dryer, but they stretch right back to normal size when you put them on.

Cascade yarns also has an identical yarn called Fixation.
If you check Ravelry or Elann or Cascade you can find patterns using their yarns with the elastic and might give you a better idea if you want to try Paton's yarn.

I own some of this yarn. I haven't actually knit with it yet, but it's not too expensive a purchase, so I thought it would be fun to try.

The problem with cotton for socks would normally be the lack of elasticity causing them to stretch out. That's why this yarn is so cool.

I am finishing up a pair of socks knit with this yarn.

It has a nice hand, and knits up nicely.. not splity, the stretch is not hard to work with.

i find the fabric ho-hum. I like self striping and i am ok with the spirals you often get (and the sometimes pooling) of hand painted yarns,

but the tweedy color 'texture' of the stretch does nothing for me.

It Ok, but boring. (and the sock are boring me.. its taken me weeks to finish (actually i still haven't, but the end is sight!)

the feel good--cottony--but softer..

my sock can be seen on my blog, --i am using a size 2 needle and getting a nice firm stitch.

I've also looked at yarn but have yet to buy any. The price is reasonable for the yarn and I liked the feel of it.

I have made two pairs of socks with this yarn and I love it! I have ordered more as my local store doesn't carry it and bought it while on vacation. Don't be afraid to tug a little on it if you are working on DPN's, it will be fine.

Yay!!! Thanks for all the replies! It sounds worth a try. All sock yarns are on sale at Hobby Lobby, so I'll be going back this week.

@of troy: I like your socks! I like the weird not quite striping but still different colors look. I may have to check and see if they have 2 pink balls now...

Hi, thanks for this post. I'm using Patons Stretch for the first time, also knitting socks on 2 circular needles for the first time (have made several pair before on dpn's).

Can I use this yarn in any pattern with size 1 needles? The owner of our local yarn store warned me to use the Patons pattern, but they only have a tube sock style...

I made a couple pair of socks with a yarn with elastic in it and injured my thumb because the elastic sticks to the needle. I needed to make another pair, and switched to KnitPicks nickel-plated dpns and it was a lot easier to slide the stitches. Eventually my thumb healed, but I have sworn off yarn with elastic content! It scared me to think I might have to give up knitting 'cause of that!

At first, I thought I would really hate knitting with this yarn. However, after my first pair of pedicure socks I found that I actually really like it and have since made more pedi socks and one pair of anklets. The socks wear very well too.
