patons pattern problem

as i just saw a red X - here is the link!
http://www.4shared.com/photo/wtYkqUcHce/pat4.html
the first line of this pattern - (the greeny blue one) seems to be 21 stitches in the triangle and 2 sts in the column - 4 times.
92 stiches.
the pattern seems to think this is 100 sts.
what am i misunderstanding?
1st row: (RS). *K2tog Pat across 19(21- 22) sts. ssk. K2. Rep from * 3 times more.
92 (100- 104) sts
2nd and alt rows: Purl even from chart.
3rd row: *K2tog. Pat across 17(19- 20) Sts. ssk. With A, K2. Rep from * 3 times more. 84 (92-96) sts.
5th row: *K2tog Pat across 15(17-18) sts. With A, K2. Rep from * 3 times more. 76 (84-88) sts.
6th row: As 2nd row.
Keeping cont of Chart IX, dec 8 sts on next and every following alt row, as before, to 36 (36-40) sts. Break yarn, leaving a long end. Draw end through rem sts tightly and fasten securely. Sew back seam.
thanks all

It looks like this section starts with a row of 108 sts:
*k2, 21sts, k2, K2* rep from * 3 times more.
Then:
1st row: (RS). *K2tog Pat across 19(21- 22) sts. ssk. K2. Rep from * 3 times more.
92 (100- 104) sts

Is there a set up row before the chart begins? Can you give us the name of the pattern and what is it you're making?

here is everything before those lines
The instructions are written for smallest size. If changes are necessary for larger sizes the instructions will be written thus ().Numbers for each size are shown in the same color throughout the pattern. When only one number is given in black, it applies to all sizes.
With smaller needles and A, cast on 86(94- 102) sts.
1st row: (RS). K2. *P2. K2. Rep from * to end of row.
2nd row: P2. *K2. P2. Rep from * to end of row.
Rep last 2 rows of (K2. P2) ribbing once more, then rep 1st row once.
Next row: (WS). [ Rib 6(6-10) sts. Ml] 14(14- 10)times. Rib 2(10-2)sts. 100(108-112) sts.
Change to larger needles and work Chart VII (or Chart VIII for Multi-color Version) in stocking st (knit on RS rows and purl on WS rows) to end of chart, reading knit rows from right to left, purl rows from left to right and noting 4-st rep will be worked 25 (27-28) times.
Charts VII and VIII are shown on page 38.

Two-Color Versions: Rep 4 rows of Chart VII (7-5) times more.
Shape top: Work appropriate Chart IX to end of chart, reading knit rows from right to left and purl rows from left to right and shaping top as follows:
Charts IX shown on pages 40 and 41
thanks

The chart is mostly there to show you the color changes. It accounts for the decreases by stairstepping in as you work the rows but there's no other indication of the k2tog or ssk in the chart itself.
You do have the 108sts as you use the chart, so follow row 1 instructions for the dec and the placement of the pattern repeats from the chart. I'd use the same color as the columns of K2 for these sts and use the contrasting color where indicated in the chart.

We don't really need the initial part of the instructions, just the part about "Next row: (WS). [ Rib 6(6-10) sts. Ml] 14(14- 10)times. Rib 2(10-2)sts. 100(108-112) sts." Would you please edit out the rest so we don't run into copyright problems? Many thanks.

After you finish the first row you should have 100 sts. You start row 1 with 108sts. When you knit the first row, you have 2 dec which are repeated 4 times so that you end the row with 100sts.
I see the blocks in the chart but they aren't showing the k2tog or ssk only the color placement.

Anon, so sorry. I wrote over your post instead of replying. Yikes! But does the reply make sense?

Yes, you're absolutely right about the number of squares and they do add up to 92. This chart however is not really a stitch chart that shows k2tog and ssk blocks for example. It's more a chart to show the color pattern and the color for the columns of K2. I agree that it would have made more sense to print a more complete chart with the dec indicated but for some reason, the designer chose not to.
If you have gotten to these instructions with 108sts, then I would recommend following the written directions for row 1 and using the chart only for the color pattern.
Thanks very much for the link.

I'd love to see the written pattern but all I can get is the chart. What am I doing wrong?
