Is this Knit or Crochet

My friend has this hat and I'm not experienced enough to know if it's knit or crochet. I'm thinking it's knit, but would like several second opinions

If it's knit, does anyone recognize a pattern similar to it?

That does not look like knit so I think it is crochet, but I've now seen some knit stitches that don't look knit.

Crochet: I'd say it is a "woven stitch" or "granite stitch" pattern. I am uncertain as to what stitches was used; it doesn't look like SC nor like DC (US definitions) so I would guess HDC (half-double crochet -US) or perhaps even a haringbone half double crochet.

definetly crochet i do both and it doesn't look like knitting at all

It sure looks like crochet to me. It looks like it could be a version of linen stitch.

... so I turned it around for another look.



I am convinced it is crocheted and uses the half double crochet stitch.
