making stripes
I am practicing making stripes for the first time. How do I get the new yarn to blend in. What is the best method for changing to a new color? Thanks so much.

Be sure that you are changing colors on a right-side knitted row. The purl side will not have a smooth color transition.

it is all knit stitch. I kinda get how you add a new ball of yarn in, but cannot figure out how to do it smoothly and nice.

Here are some nice pages explaining how to create stripes (horizontally) in knitting. Knitty has a nice article in the "Techniques with Theresa" section explaining how to weave in ends on garter stitch.

If you are knitting in the round, here is a nice instructional blog explaining how to do striping that I have found helpful.
