Anybody up to test an afghan square?

This is another of my disaster knitting patterns. I came up with this after Hurricane Katrina and tweaked it recently so it can be knit or crocheted square by square rather than in strips. This could be made very quickly by a group. It takes me just shy of an hour, given the usual interruptions, to finish a square. Let me know what you think, could you?

Windows Full of Rainbows

Materials: White yarn, your choice, about fifteen yards (that's probably more than you'll need)
About four yards of each of seven rainbow colors (red, orange, yellow, green, turquoise or lighter blue, darker blue and purple; you may choose either pastels or brights, but I wouldn't necessarily mix them.)
Gauge does not matter except as it suits the yarn.

Knit version:
CO 21 sts with white yarn. Work four rows of garter stitch. Begin stripes. Work in stockinette stitch, breaking off each color when finished with it:
Rows 1-4:Red
Rows 5-8: Orange
Rows 9-12:Yellow
Rows 13-16: Green
Rows 17-20: Blue
Rows 21-24: Indigo (or a darker blue)
Rows 25-28: Violet
With white, work four rows of garter stitch. Bind off.

Using white yarn, pick up 27 stitches evenly spaced along side of piece. Work four rows garter stitch and bind off. Repeat for other side.

For crochet:
Ch 22. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across (rows will all have 21 sc.) Work even in sc: three rows with red, three with orange, three with yellow, three with green, three with blue, three with indogo and three with violet. Fasten off.
For edging: join white in corner, work 3 sc in same spot as joining, sc in every sc or row to next corner, 3 sc in corner...around. Join with sl st in first sc, ch 1, sc in BACK LOOP ONLY all the way around, having 3 sc in the center sc of each corner. Repeat this row twice.

To join squares:
Sew together along edges, keeping rainbows aligned (or not, if you like them otherwise). With 6" strands of multicolored yarn, tie bows at the corners if desired.

NOTE: I am aware that there is a second meaning to rainbows, and that doesn't offend me. If you want this to be a pride flag afghan, leave out the indigo and pick up three fewer stitches.

Believe it or not, I have run into people who somehow or other imagine it would! It doesn't.
Then again, I've run into people who thought a designer would explode at them for changing some detail...and again believe it or not, some of us ran into one who DID! (Not in any grand moral or political context, either. She was just mad that someone had changed the very expen$ive yarn she had used for something affordable.)

I think it is a delightful afghan idea!
Also, black g. st borders would pop the rainbow colors, too!

I can't post pictures until I find my camera or DH and/or DS take a picture for me.

Also, I did try a garter stitch version (twice as many rows in the rainbow colors) and while the window effect isn't as obvious, it does come out nicely framed in either black or white.
