I've never worked from a chart (on 2nd page) before, but it seems simple enough. One question, though: what do the different facing slashes mean? All the other symbols are explained in the key, but not these. I think it must be some kind of decrease, but not sure...

I think the pattern has a bit of a typo in it, the hatch marks/slashes are supposed to coincide with the explanation in the key. So the forward slash is ssk and the backward slash is k2tog.
