Portuguese Fisherman's Sweater
Portuguese Fisherman's Sweater - Large

billboard body with drop sleeves
needles: size 11 (cables), size 10 (10") straight, size 10 dps
yarn: RedHeart Grandé, 7 skeins, or 7 skeins of double-strand worsted weight wool yarn

gauge: 12 rows of k1p1 rib = 2"
lower edge = 58 st k1p1 rib = 21˝"

Cluster Rib Verso: K1, (YO,K2,pass YO over 2k & off,K1)
Cluster Rib Front: P1,(K2,P1)

cast on 58 st
work k1-p1 rib for 2" (7 rows)
switch to larger needles
right side: 4 stst, *5 CRF, 8 stst*, repeat *-*, 5 CRF, 4 stst
wrong side: 4 stst, *5 CRV, 8 stst*, repeat *-*, 5 CRV, 4 stst
every 8th row, work cable twist in two bands of 8 stst (rows 9, 17, 25, 33, 41, 49, 57, 65, 73, 81)
work even through 10 cable twists (81 rows), work even 8 more rows (89 rows)
bind off, or slip all stitches to holder or size 10 dps

work as for back through 10 cable twists (81 rows), ending on wrong side
divide for neckline on right side:
(decreases at neck may be worked by binding off, or by slipping to a small circular needle)
work to center cluster rib stitch; bind off center cluster rib or slip to dps or size 10 16" circular needle
attach second yarn and work even across
keeping pattern, bind off center clusters or slip to circular/dps over eight rows
bind off shoulders

Attach back to front at shoulders

Collar: If neck edges were bound off, with size 10 circular needle or dps, pick up 56 st;
work k1p1 rib for 18 rows (4")
Double over to inside and sew opposite edge inside neckline
For crew neck, work 7 rows of k1p1 rib, bind off in rib

Sleeves: with size 10 needles, cast on 28 st (10˝"), work k1-p1 rib for 7 rows
right side: increase row: work 2 st in each of the first 8 st of the previous row -
K1, 5CRF, P1, K1bf, P1, K6, P1, K1bf, P1 & complete row in pattern with 2 st in each st of previous row
wrong side: switch to larger needles, P1, 6 CRV, P6, 6 CRV, P1
every 8th row work cable twist (rows 9, 17, 25, 33, 41, 49, 57, 65, 73, 81)
increase 1 st either side on front in row after cable twist 5 times (rows 11, 19, 27, 35, 43)
work even for 7 cable twists (49 rows), work even 8 more rows
bind off (15˝-16" above ribbing)
sew sleeves to body, sew undersides of sleeves and sides of body
