first stich
i've figured out how to cast on, i'm using the long tail method
i think i can knit and purl but!
i cant figure out how to knit the first stich it comes loose and falls apart
am i suppose to put a knot at the end of casting on or what?

Have you looked at the video for the knit stitch? Demo of a small projecton the Tips page shows how to caston, then knit a few rows. Make sure you insert the tip of the right needle into the first loop on the left needle, not between them.
