Slippery Socks on Hardwood

Hi all! Not sure if this is the right forum for this question but I didn't know where else to put it...So I'm getting into knitting socks and totally loving it. I'm a little concerned to make socks for my 3 yr old son though as he LOVES to run around as fast as he can. We have hardwood floors throughout and I know that I slip around when I wear wool socks so I'm worried that he's going to break his neck. I'm wondering what I could put on the bottoms of his socks to make them less slippery??? He has store bought socks that have what I like to call grippy's on them which looks like it's just rubber or something in strips or words across the bottom, it actually kind of looks like puffy paint. I don't know where I might be able to get something like this, any ideas???

I'll check what I have this evening after work and let you know if you get no earlier responses. You can also use fabric paint and draw wavy lines or circles on the bottoms with the paint. Just be sure to let it dry thoroughly and don't make it so thick that little fingers can peel it off.
I have several packs of the bumpy stuff you sew or glue on. I'll be glad to give you one if you'll PM me your address. I overbought and will never use all that I have.

I had the same problem when making felted slippers for my grand children. I went to Hobby Lobby and bought Safe-T back rug backing. It costs about $9.99 It is a liquid (about the substance of glue.) I put it on the bottom with a foam brush, let it dry a few hours, did another coat, then let it dry 24 hours. It works great, so far I've done 5 pairs of slipper bottoms, and I have only used about half of what is in the container. Since felted slippers don't go in the laundry, I'm not sure how the backing hold up in the washer and dryer. The instructions say to not wash the item it is applied to for 2 weeks. I think that like the puff paint, it would break down after awhile, on second thought, not sure I would put it in the dryer at all.

I have used that also(and it is on the same page as gripper stuff)but thought it was a little hard for socks.I also added craft paint to it and made the color to match slippers.

Thanks for the replies, I appreciate it. I'd like to make socks that he can wear with shoes as well so I don't thing the gripper stuff would work for that but I was also wondering where I could get a non slip bottom for slippers so Thanks a bunch for that. I had no idea where I would get that. I'm thinking I may try the fabric paint, it seems that would be most like what is on his store bought socks and that works pretty good for keeping him "on his toes".

I just didn't know if thats what it was of if it was something more specific to the application.

Hi there,
I knit slippers for my sister, who has all hardwood flooring, and just used dots of puff paint on the bottom. (I did dots so that when the slippers stretch, it wouldn't break the paint). She told me that they grip very well and the paint only cost $1.29 or so at Walmart.

I seem to remember puff paint losing it's non skid quality after a while...

Anyhoo... here's another idea, but it won't work if you need to use these for regular socks, too. I think I'd make him a pair of slipper socks to use just for slippers so you can make the super safe.
