February KAL - Scrubbies

I got mine, too! Six from Linda, six from Jill. Jill sends a different style of 'spool'. It is wrapped around what could be called a toilet paper tube, but thicker. No end caps.

Here are some photos of the two styles of netting spools:
From Linda, spools have solid 'end caps':

Here are 9 out of 12 spools, all cut in half and ready to roll!




Emerald green netting with white cotton = a tweed effect:


I use white netting with colored cottons.
White netting with blue variegated cotton:

Very good for a potato scrubbie! Takes that dirt off real slick&fast!

Here's my first scrubbie! I cast on 17 (not intentionally) and then knit about 12 ridges. It's almost as long and wider than my hand so I thought it was big enough. My size 11 US needle is off hiding somewhere so I used a 10.5 US and it seems fine. This one is aqua netting and white yarn.

It wasn't hard, but it did take me a couple hours (with a break or two) because I kept having to wrap the netting around the yarn. Did you do that, Dollyce or do you just hold them together and knit? I actually can't wait to do dishes to try it out!

That looks great Jan! I would have guessed the yarn is blue, but I guess it's from wrapping the netting around the yarn...(speaking of which, you have a LOT more patience than I do!)

I try to get the netting around the cotton, but in the end...it slows up the knitting process horribly, and knitting with netting is slow enough as it is.

So I start out with the netting wrapped around the cotton, but if it comes undone so that some naked cotton is visible, I leave it.
Maybe stopping once or twice within the Scrubbie to re-position the netting.

The scrubbie performs great either way!

I try to wrap some of it for a foot or so and hold it while I do several stitches. Eek... still takes forever, but I was thinking it would protect the yarn from the scrubbing, but I don't know.

Well, that is a good thought you mention, Jan.
Maybe I'll try your 12" method on my next "scrub-in" !

I feel a scrubbie binge coming on! I am itchin' to get stitchin' a new batch of scrubbies with my new colors of netting!



But I just gotta keep my nose on the SYLVI trail!

Ok I'm in on this KAL. I just ordered some netting, can't wait to get it. I will start after Valentines Day. I think these will make great Mother's Day gifts for all the moms in my mothers group.

Ladies! A question! I really want to join this KAL (though i'll have to order the yarn and the netting, or look for it here somewhere), but i have a few things i want to be sure of First, i never used a knitted scrubby and i don't own a dishwasher. So are they really efficient with washing the dirty dishes that won't go into the washer later? Second, how do they perform with teflon? I have special scrubbies for the pans, so they won't get scratched. Third, are they soft enough to use instead of Luffa in the shower, if i use the tulle and not the netting and knit them with handles?

I used my scrubby last night to wash dishes and it works great! It got all the 'crud' out of the pan very quickly! I would think it would be fine on teflon.. maybe Dollyce (Artlady) has tried it..I don't have any teflon pans.

I certainly wouldn't use the netting as a shower scrubby..it's way to rough, but the softer netting might be fine.

Thanks Jan! I checked and the netting sellers don't ship to our side of the world. I asked just in case, but I don't think I'll get a positive answer. And I checked the cost of cotton and it's sooo cheap compared to the prices here, but they ship only Priority which makes it triple. So i'll try to look for something locally and see if I can join you
