February KAL - Scrubbies

Ladies! A question! I really want to join this KAL (though i'll have to order the yarn and the netting, or look for it here somewhere), but i have a few things i want to be sure of First, i never used a knitted scrubby and i don't own a dishwasher. So are they really efficient with washing the dirty dishes that won't go into the washer later? Second, how do they perform with teflon? I have special scrubbies for the pans, so they won't get scratched. Third, are they soft enough to use instead of Luffa in the shower, if i use the tulle and not the netting and knit them with handles?

I would think these would be too rough to use in the shower. I have a friend who crochets shower scrubbies using plastic canvas yarn like this.

Actually, the Bath Shops selling nylon netting scrubbies! I have two in my shower. One for my bod, one to clean the tub! Each in a different color! No mistakes!

If you have ANY dry skin on your legs, "ash", it comes right off with that nylon netting shower scrubbie!

The nylon netting isn't combined with any cotton, and they are wadded up in grapefruit-size poofy balls! They really suds up nicely! I think the nylon netting is a slightly softer grade than the nylon netting on those spools. I think.

I found some netting in a craft store, but i suspect it to be too stiff for the scrubbies. I hope this week i'll have the time to try and knit it with some cotton i have

I got mine, too! Six from Linda, six from Jill. Jill sends a different style of 'spool'. It is wrapped around what could be called a toilet paper tube, but thicker. No end caps.

I use white netting with colored cottons.

Very good for a potato scrubbie! Takes that dirt off real slick&fast!

I used an electric knife to cut just through the netting so the spool remained intact. Obviously that doesn't work well with the other spools.

My husband cut them in half using a Japanese Fine Tooth Saw...then....I got an idea...and we tried my Cutco bread knife (we had so many spools to do!)...lo and behold, it cut through the spool better than his Japanese saw!

Well I just so happen to have a cutco bread knife. I think I'll give it a try. Otherwise I'll go out in DH's shop and see what he can do.

Hey luv! Yep! I cutco knife can take a finger off real quick!

We had to be careful how we held the spool. I held one side, he held the other side and he cut in a sawing motion. He was so afraid he'd take off my finger! The knife even made short work of sawing through the core of the spool! A testimony for the Cutco double-d blade edge!

The Cutco bread knife actually did a better job. It didn't mangle the netting at all. Sometimes the Japanese Fine Tooth saw would mangle a bit of the netting.

DARN!!! I've been to JoAnn's twice and still managed to forget the netting!!! These senior moments are killing me! This weekend for sure.

Ok I got my netting cut in 1/2 yesterday. Turns out I don't have a cutco bread knife. I used the Heineken bread knife instead. It was tough cutting the spools in 1/2 but I did it. I was hoping DH wouldn't walk in while I was cutting, since I am always on him about what he uses the "good" knives on. I finished up before he walked in and managed to NOT cut off any fingers.

Tomorrow I will begin my knitting. I wonder if the netting will scratch up my options. I hate to mess them up. Artlady and Jan or anybody lse in KH land what needles are you using?
