Do You Knit and Crochet?
I am just learning to knit and I am excited about some of the projects I have planned. My grandmother was a very talented crocheter (is that a word) I would like to recreate some of our most cherished pieces some day.

I can see myself doing both knitting and crocheting. How many of you do both?

If just one, why?

Maria.. a newbie to this forum
Any help is appreciated. I need encouragement to get beyond the basic learning stage and make it to the relaxing "zen" stage.

I have added myself to the KH map. Have you?

Yup. My grandmother taught me to crochet when I was 4. I'm teaching myself to knit now. (I started New Year's Eve.) I never could get hand knitting into my head previous to this, even though I wanted to learn to knit rather badly. I'm having a great time now.

OTN: Eyelet Chemise in Handmaiden Sea Silk (colorway: Midnight). Still. And a purple Donegal Tweed set of fingerless mitts, to try out my new Hiya Hiya interchangeable needles.

Latest FO: A shrug for an Anthropologie swap in beautiful Casbah sock yarn, in Cedar, a dark green semi-solid, my own pattern. Also a quick Noro Silk Garden neckwarmer for my friend Aideen, in a vine lace pattern.

Hi Maria--as you can see my user name is Marria, which was my nickname when I was a kid. My name is actually Mary.

Anyways---yes, I do crochet and knit both. I learned to crochet then I learned to knit. I enjoy both, and although I know some people think one or the other is harder, I don't find that to be true for me. I just think they're different.

I like to use crochet for afghans and sometimes scarves, and knitting for garments, although I have a couple of crochet sweaters on my Ravelry queue, and eventually I'll make one. I also sometimes put crochet edgings on my knitting.

Welcome to KH. This is a great community!
If at first you don't it and try again!

OTN: Dollar and a Half Cardigan, Oddball charity projects, Celia, Trellis

Yup, I do both. I find myself knitting more than crocheting these days, but I learned to crochet when I was very little. It's only been in the last few years I've learned to knit.

I do both. Crochet for blankets and knitting for clothing.

Yup, I do both as well. My grandma tried to teach me to knit when I was small, but I really picked up crochet from her when I was around 9. In the last few years, I've finally picked up knitting again and have taken off!
I like them both.

Hi! I do both but I am primarily a knitter. I can only do scarves, hats and blankets in crochet but have done all kinds of things in knitting. Welcome and you'll get lots of tips and help here that's for sure!

Knitting is saving my sanity

OTN: Hats, hats and soon, socks!

FO:Hats-about 6 of them and a scarf for a coworker

knit and crochet
I taught myself to do both knit and crochet when I was in high school. I had done a some hats, scarves and a sweater and shawl in crochet. But, in recent years I prefer to knit exclusively. Maybe it's because I like the texture of knitted garment better, it's simply easier to focus on one skill rather than do both. I do find it handy to be able to put crochet edgings on a sweater, or to seam together a garment in crochet slip stitch, or even do a crochet provisional cast-on. One of these days, I'll make a complete garment in crochet again. I kinda miss doing it.

I do both. I used to do mostly crochet but over the years knitting has taken over. I do need to finish my crochet tablecloth though.
