when shaping arm holes for back of vest patt calls for 6 bo at beg of next two rows, it seems more logical to bo at beg and end of SAME row...no?

You have to do it at the beggining of the row so that you don't have to break the yarn and rejoin it as you would have to do if you bound of at the end of the row.

Yup, when you bind off at the end of a row, your yarn is in the wrong place after the bind off. The one row doesn't make a difference in the end product.
