backward looping

What is the backward loop method of cast on? I am making ties for a cozie....

It's about half way down.

It's probably the easiest cast on, but also my personal least favorite. If you use it for more than a few stitches, when you go back and knit the first row, there always seems to be extra yarn flopping in the way.

I'd recommend a knit or cable cast on.

It's on the cast on page under Single cast on. I'm not sure it would be a good one for ties, the sts tend to get loose when you knit into them and make extra yarn loops. Try the knit or cable cast on instead.
