Pattern Help Please

I am attempting my first cardigan and a bit confused at the way the instructions are written. It states:
cont working in pattern, bind off 5 stts beg next 2 rows. 106stts
cont working in pat until armhole measures 10 ins, ending with right side facing.

My question is do I measure the length across or the curve made for the armhole for the 10 ins?

The inches given are for the "height" of the armhole so measuring starting at your decrease until you have 10 inches knit up towards the neck/top.

It's measured from the row you make the first BO on, straight up.
