M1 = make 1 stitch by knitting in the bar in-between stitches?
My pattern reads "M1 = make 1 stitch by knitting in the bar in-between stitches."

Warning: Newbie Knitter

To make a stitch I know you can do a SFB or something.. when you act as if to knit a stitch, then knit the back of it too.

What does it mean to make a stitch by knitting in the bar in-between stitches?

Thanks for your help!

If my pattern doesn't specify Make 1 Left or Right, I use the Make 1 Left.

I hope this helps you.
The Knit Witch does good videos, clearly and slowly.

Our KnittingHelp owner (Amy) has video clips here, too.
Up at the top of this page, you'll see TABS. Click VIEW VIDEOS>Increases>then find M1.

I like the way Amy has the increases on a sample to look at, too...very handy if you want to choose a look for your increase!

Somewhat off your subject, this is my current fav increase...I've been doing a lot of stockinette baby things recently, so it's been handy!

Yep, that's the KLL increase Zina. I use that a lot along with the KRL one for matching increases.

Thanks for adding that link, globaltraveler! Elsebeth Lavold asks for this type of increase in her Viking Knits cabled sweaters! She calls them lifted increases. Especially useful within the field of the knitting! It's nearly undetectable!

The link you gave us has the best diagrams I've ever seen!
I saved the link for future reference!
