Entrelac tutorial?

I just found the scarf I have been looking for to replace a beloved scarf I lost. It is entrelac though, and I have never attempted this technique. I'm sure it like anything else in knitting, once you get the hang of it it's easy, but I don't know where to start. Here is the scarf,...

and I have another question about Noro. Everyone does this stripy knitting and sort of color block work with it, does it do this itself? Stupid question but I don't have a LYS here that carries it. What's the deal with Noro?????

You're right about entrelac...once you get the hang of it, it's still just knit/purl, plus picking up stitches. For me, though, it was easy to lose my place and forget what I had to do next if I put it down for any length of time, so I would suggest you maybe write yourself a note so you can remembere where you are.
I've never used Noro before, but I know most yarn do the striping automatically and you don't have to do anything.
Try the entrelac...it's a lot of fun.

A couple years ago we had a monthly KAL that was based on entrelac. You can find that here.

There is a lot of good information in that thread if you don't know where to start with it.

With some self-striping yarns, yes, they can do it themselves. Some people change yarns every row of blocks. You could possibly knit a swatch to see how your yarn's colors change from block to block to get a visual on it.

There are several entrelac scarves on Ravelry if you want to look at others, too.

You're right, it's easy when you get the hang of it. That first row is the weirdest.

And yes, Noro self stripes just like that. It's pretty cool, but I can't wear it so I didn't use it.

I used the second tutorial that Jan posted to help me with the Danica scarf (from knitty.) It really isn't that bad once you get started. Good luck.

I can't wait to get this started! I am knitting a neckwarmer with some horrible handspun shetland right now and I have to finish because,...1. it was expensive and I have to use it for something and 2. I always have to finish what I start before I start something else, very monogamous knitter. It's uncarded and I'm picking out bales of hay and it's oily and I'm having a hard time getting used to it. It's very pretty and very soft so I'm sure once it's done I will like it.

Anyway, thanks again, I'll look over the KAL and the tutorials (didn't know Rav had them!) and get started!!

Jan's got a problem with wool next to her skin I believe. That's the reason she can't wear it.

If I recall correctly, Silver has done an entrelac scarf using Paton's SWS. I think she either posted the pattern or project somewhere. It's much cheaper than Noro and you can feel it in the store. The big craft chains carry it. It's cheaper to Noro for your first try anyway.

Hummm. Maybe not such a bad idea to jump in with some cheaper yarn. Never thought about that. I usually just jump in feet first and get to it. I think that a swatch is a good idea. Thanks!
