Yeah...long before knit picks came out with these....I had gone to home depot and got a pack of 4 of those squares for $15....they work great...
I actually read about it in a comment made on one of the Yarn Harlots posts about blocking on the bed. The comment was something about how she prefered to use those kind of blocks as they can be stood up and out of the way once the item was pinned....and no worries about leaving pins in the bed....*smiles*
At Costco a couple months back, I got a set of very similar squares. The main difference? They're nearly twice the size for the same price. I love them

I just purchased some from Lowes and they measure 24"x24". I needed something to block my needlepoint and three of them together let me use common pins instead of tacks. I noticed that one side is smooth but the other side has a sort of a woven pattern which is great for squaring things up. Thanks for the great suggestion.
I was thinking of buying them, if the exchange rate wasn't so forbidding... I'll go shopping and see if I can find something equivalent in a regular store!
