Blocking???

I am a new knitter-hubs and I both learned over the holidays. I am trying my first non-scarf/hat project. A laptop bag with cables galore

I know that I am going to have to block it eventually and this is where my question comes in. I am doing this initial run in an acrylic yarn-if i mess up-no economic URGHS. Does acrylic block?
Second tie in question-i want to make another one using the cotton ease by lion brand (love the colors), does anyone know how that will work or have suggestions?

Sorry to say, but acrylic does not block. Most synthetic yarns don't. What you see is what you get. Cotton won't block either, but I do think it may stretch some, but not much.

Acrylic doesn't block, but you can machine wash and dry the bag to even out the stitches.

Acrylic will happily block with steam.
But you may not want to block cables and ribbing because blocking acrylic "kills" it so you would lose definition and bounce.

You also need to do a test swatch because some yarns shrink with steam.

Thank you ALL for the help. I definitely might use some wool/cotton blend for the dh's cover. As for mine, I am going to slog through and complete it and see how it all turns out, because worse comes to worse it will be a learning experince. Who knows maybe I will post a pic of it when done.
