I think her yarn is misnamed, too. It's 16 st over 4 in which is not the typical weight for baby yarn.
Are we looking at the same yarn? Her link took me to Sirdar snuggly DK with a gauge of 22sts over 4" with a size 6. The original Vanna yarn is 17sts/4" on a size 8. The VC yarn doesn't have baby weights, only 'baby' colors, it's all worsted.

I meant the yarn suggest for the pattern. It's Vanna's Choice Baby. Most yarns that are "baby" yarns are more of a DK/sport weight. It is the 'baby' colors only as you said, but I think the name can be misleading if someone just thinks it's baby yarn w/o looking at gauge.

That doesn't seem to be the problem here though. If anything those booties knit with the DK should have come out smaller not larger.

Just checking. The only thing I can think of is you did too many rows and possibly stitches.

Here's a thought... did you know that each garter ridge is two rows? Just checking to make sure you didn't count it as one row. That would make way too many rows.

That's a good idea; the yarn you have is a DK and in the pattern it's a worsted, so smaller needles should help.
