Darning socks

Help!! I have two of my beloved socks that the toes are in need of darning......any suggestions?

You can cut the bad toes off, join some yarn and reknit them and they will be like new.

Then you can pre-darn them to reinforce.

Any suggestions to a different stitch to enforce the strength of the toe?

I give the big toe area a work-out in my birkenstocks. I put a little extra by using a linen stitch (K1, sl1 wyif) then next round (Sl1 wyif, k1).

So you just start the linen stitch when you start to decrease the toe?

Yes. It takes a little longer to finish but it is so much tougher.

On this pair of socks ( princess socks) I followed the line of my toes and made a left and right sock. It was one of those things I just wanted to try. Fits great and looks good but not much different than a regular dec. toe.

Cutting off the bad toes and renew the socks is a good idea. I haven't done it yet but I think I am gonna try it. Especially because my daughter often has cold feet so she can use some extra wool. I have also knitted a left and a right sock and think they look good.
