I made this little party bag for my DGD, to use when wearing the PRINCESS PONCHO!
Lacy Summer Purse
I used one skein of the yarn...which has 104 yds.
Bag made to accessorize this child's poncho
titled Kiddie Capelet
by the designer, although I call it the PRINCESS PONCHO!:
There are several things about the pattern that I find cumbersome, and I tinkered with those issues all night. You might not find the pattern 'glitchy'
at all. It might just be me.
I'll make a round bottom next time (for Laila's) instead of square.
It is single crochet for more stability I guess. I'll definitely skip the pattern's eyelet configuration. I tried their version of an eyelet round, and it didn't turn out well at all. I did something wrong. The eyelets were NOT eyelets. Oy.
I ended up unraveling the bind off and re-working my own eyelet recipe.
*K2T Yo K1...around to the marker. <This is a very easy, reasonable eyelet row. I don't still know what the pattern was trying to do with their convoluted eyelet formula.
Why make something as easy as eyelets into something so strange? It's just an eyelet row already!
I don't like how the long 42" chain stitch 'handle' works.
It's threaded through all the eyelets fine, but when you try to 'cinch up' and close the mouth of the bag, it is cumbersome. It doesn't really 'draw' closed.
Anyway, the kids will love it. I do not, for reasons stated.
Maybe I'll love bags two and three, which I hafta make for the other 2 girls. And maybe I'll figure out a different way of closing the mouth of the purse.
PS: the lace pattern was easy, but beware: ya sure do need a ton of st markers for the multiples of 6 in the rounds. Don't try it til you have a bunch of st markers to define the multiples of 6. I learned that the hard way on Round 2 of Repeat 1.
EDITED: I re-worked the handles with the help of our member: aprilbetty! Thanks!
I've made a total of 4 bags now. Fiona, Laila, Celeste, and Rachel. They will complement the PRINCESS PONCHOS. Each girl will receive a set!
Open and closed! The bag cinches closed like a charm!
The 'square bottom' and the 'round bottoms'. I prefer the round bottoms!
