Edge sts - 2 each side
For the main body, the pattern calls for an edge st each side. At the start of the row, it should be slipped, then knit at the end.

Now, for the sleeves, it says to keep 2 edge sts each side. Do I just not count those sts (4 total) in the pattern rows or should I do something else? I can't slip 2 sts at the beginning of a row, can I?

I'm having a lot of difficulty with this pattern, and am just not sure of anything in it (The Gertrude Sweater). Pie wants identical sweaters for her and her best friend. I'm hoping I can convince her of a different pattern in the same color instead.

I think for the sleeve, you start with 2 edge sts then begin the pattern. When you increase, it's between them, then you'll have 3 edge sts, then 4, etc.
