CO for preemie hat

Hi everyone..I have some Rowan Cashsoft DK that I will be "whipping up" lots of "preemie hats"....I have checked all of my pats and it's looking like 10" head size...This yarn is very soft and thin, I want to do them in circs (in the round) any suggestions on gauge/#of sts? I think a US 4 should work, but I would have to co on a lot of sts..Right?

A size 4 is a little small for DK weight, it usually takes a 5 or 6. You would need to knit a sample to find out how many sts/inch you get then multiply times 10". There are preemie patterns at Bev's Country cottage. Here's one on size 6 needles http://www.bevscountrycottage.com/premiehats.html
