need help with diagram instructions
I hope someone can help me figure this out. My tank top pattern asks to Cast on 81 stitches, then follow diagram.
The diagram shows 8 stitches in the pattern to be repeated to the end of the row. But I end up with 3 stitches left because 8 does not divide equally into 81.
What do I do with the last 3 stitches??
thanks

Could those be edge stitches for seaming? If you have a link please post it, it helps us help you.

You should end up with 1 st left over - 8 goes into 81 10 times plus 1. But a link to the pattern could help us figure it out for you.

so I have searched the internet over and cannot find this pattern, maybe someone else would have better luck?
I bought the pattern from a local store who is closed until tuesday. It is a leaflet from their dealer Nordic Yarn Imports. It is number 5101 by idena almedahls, Sorbetto summer top.
You cast on 81 stitches and then knit from diagram. the diagram has 8 rows to repeat and starts with 6 stitches, but you only repeat 4 stitches to the end. First two stitches are Purl/knit two depending on w/r side of work.
then you knit2 tog, then yo, then purl/knit two stitches. So you only repeat these 4 stitches to the end. But that leaves one stitch left over. What do I do with that one stitch? Can anyone find the pattern or is this enough info?

Sorry, no that isn't quite enough information. You can type out the rows you're having a problem with, that won't violate copyright laws.

okay here goes,
Cast on 81 stitches
row 1 - purl
Diagram
row 2 - p2, *k2tog, yo, p2 * (repeat from * to * to end)
but I end up with 3 stitches left. I am short one stitch in order to finish with the p2. Does this make sense? The pattern is for an even number of stitches but they have you cast on an odd number. I don't understand this.
thanks

You're right, it's off. What happens on Row 2 if you use 82 sts?

Then it was probably a typo so just go ahead with 82.
