Yarn 'labels'

Okay, I know there are probably tons of you out there who have a good solution.
My wife and I both save the labels off our yarn balls for the patterns. What's the best way of storing them so they are accessible and usable?

The labels? I don't actually save them myself. I keep track of everything on Ravelry..it's like a journal. Heaven help me if Rav ever dies or loses all it's files.

So..what about a binder with the clear sleeves? You can probably store several at a time in each one. OR maybe use card stock and punch holes for the rings and glue them on. Then you can make notes by each one. Like I said though I haven't done this so I'm not sure of the pitfalls or what you might want to do with them.

I like the idea of clear sleeves, though I haven't done it myself. I've just been keeping the printed patterns in a binder. I had every intention of placing them in clear sleeves and then printing a picture of my FO for each pattern. But, some of the patterns I reuse (for donation knitting), and the sleeves are not conducive to reading the patterns unless I use multiple sleeves for the multiple pages. Also, printing out pictures cost money, so I use Ravelry and my blog to keep the pictures.

what about going online and actually printing the pattern full size, then if you put them into a binder they look nice and neat. you can always write on the print off the the yarn weight etc. that you took the pattern from.

I tuck them inside the skein, so I know what and where it is when I need it.

If I have several similar yarns (such as blacks of same weight) which would be impossible to tell apart if label fell out I do this: Tie a certain # of knots on the end. Clip a piece of the yarn and tie same # of knots and tape it to the label. THAT way, I can tell them apart JIC they get separated.
