NEW at KnitPicks! CITY TWEED!
Knit Picks' CITY TWEED makes me want to knit another Central Park Hoodie!

I love donegal tweeds, but they tend to be itchy!

KnitPicks CITY TWEED heavy worsted is 55% Merino wool, 25% superfine alpaca, 20% Donegal tweed. And, 164 generous yards!!! In 14 diverse colors!

I'm in mad love with LEMON CURD! So hard to find good yellows. I've been searching for an adult yellow ever since the Seinfeld episode when Elaine was wearing a fabulous yellow cabled sweater at the restaurant!

KnitPicks CITY TWEED is also available in a dk weight!
123 yards per skein, and 14 diverse colors!

The color cards for each are 80605 (worsted colors) and 80604 (dk colors) but you have to call them to get the color cards. Their website isn't displaying the color cards yet. I purchased 12 sk of Snowshoe plus the two color cards via telephone a minute ago.

I'm anxiously waiting to "see" Lemon Curd and Tabby when the color cards get here! Wouldn't the 3 colors make a divine blanket?
Or tri-color sweater?

I can visualize a cardigan in the heavy worsted, and a matching
pullover or tank in the dk! Oh, don't get me started!

I'm supposed to be on the 2009 Stash Train, with no stops for food! Well, I have some REWARD yarn coming to me! (myself allowing myself to get new yarn after using up a bunch of stash!)

FYI:

Central Park Hoodie
needs 1647 yds for a size 44" finished bust.
That translates to 10.04 skeins of CITY TWEED heavy worsted, 11 skeins to be on the safe side. That translates to a cost of about $80-$88 for an outrageous hooded size 44 jacket!

Another great hoodie, similar to CPH, but better cables ( more interesting, but still considered EZ cables) is from CHIC. By Bonnie M. Burns. It takes 11 sk for the size 46". It has more shape to it. It is wonderful. It is called TWIST. I downloaded this PDF pattern a while back, and the more I think about it, the more I'm interested in it for a KAL! I'm knitting TWIST in Snowshoe and maybe the hoodless version in Lemon Curd! I'll be ready for September!

"TWIST" cabled cardigan!

Same length as CPH, about 24". Oy! I love it!
The pattern gives specs for both a hooded version,
and a 'collar only' version! That's cool!

Anyone interested in a KAL for the TWIST hooded cardi?
I AM going to make it, and would be happy to help you knit it, too! Just get your yarn together, and your PDF pattern.

This could be a KAL as soon as you like! Even if there is just two of us!

It's gorgeous! So far I haven't really found one wool/wool blend that I can stand for any length of time. But, I'm nothing if not persistent so I'll have to give it a try sometime. Let us know if you get some and how you like it!

ETA: I bought the Twist pattern last year! I have yet to make it so I'd be game to give it a try if you s tart a KAL although I won't be able to do it for a few months. I'm just going to start a KAL with my Knit Night group doing a Circumnavigated Cardigan. <--Rav link

Yeah. I just recently got my KnitPicks catalogue and practically drooled all over it. Some of it will be coming over to my house pretty soon....

It looks great, but i think the alpaca part will give it a halo does not exist in other tweeds and it will shed a little. I guess it depends on how you like your tweed to look

It is lovely. I hope someone will get some and report back. I have not always been too happy with knitpicks yarn.

I would LOVE to do a KAL for the Twist hoodie... but alas, I've exhausted my yarn fund until at least August :(

I won't be able to do it for awhile either, but KALs can be done anytime.

Me neither. I bought their "100% merino style" yarn a few years back...before I realized that not all merinos were created alike.

It was not as I expected. I thought the 100% meant it would be super soft. But alas, there are different grades of merino wool.

"Ya gets what ya pays for", my mother used to say!

I don't fault Knitpicks in any way. It was a nice yarn, with a super cheap pricetag. I blame my own 'yarn ignorance'.

I'll be our guinea pig for this new yarn! Will report my findings!

My first CPH was knit using the signature yarn: Tahki Donegal Tweed. For my DD. It is, even after washing/rinsing in UNICORN products, still slightly scratchy. Such is the character of donegal tweeds.

My second CPH was knit using Debbie Bliss Luxury Donegal Tweed. Ahhhhh. Much nicer! Wool and angora. I think the white rabbit "angora"! See the little itty bitty rabbit hairs?
