What else can I do with sock yarn?
I have a bunch and I am not in the mood for socks at the moment.

There are some mittens/gloves/fingerless gloves that call for fingering weight yarns...or a shawl/wrap...tank tops...

If you are on ravelry you could do an advanced search for fingering weight projects too

You could start making squares for a blanket or a blanket. Some of them are gorgeous!

I've seen one of these in sock yarn and it's beautiful!

Or maybe some mitts

Other uses for sock yarn
Well...we just had a SWTC trunk show at our LYS, and one of the items he had was a baby blanket made from Tofutsie. No pattern, but if you figure out the # of sts/inch, multiply that out to the size you want, you can do stocknette stich to the size you want; then crochet a lovely border arount it. It was BEAUTIFUL.

Another use for sock yarn I saw recently was a mitered squre blanket. It is going to be an adult sized blanket, an "heirloom". Each square was a different sock yarn, very tiny (maybe 2" x 2") and the girl who ws making it was using her yarn and trading with others on a knit-a-long site - sorry, but I don't know where. It was quite nice, but seemed time consuming.

Many of my knit friends are holding a strand of sock yarn with a DK or worsted weight and turning out some very unusual knit fabrics.

Hope this helps you.

You could hold two or three strands of sock yarn together and knit some interesting shawls, hats, gloves, etc.

Shetland Shorty from the summer Knitty. I knit mine with 3 skeins of Shibui sock yarn. It is one of my favorite pieces.

Thermal from Knitty is next up in my queue. Using Fortissimo Disco.

They are really cute coasters that look like rugs. They knit up really quick.

I am currently knitting the yarn Harlot scarf with sock yarn..it is my third YH scarf, and it's fun to try it with different types of yarns.
