Purl Stitch Help
I have just started knitting and I am very good at the basic knit stitch. I have tried to do the purl stitch by using videos and books, but I still do not understand. If anyone has any tricks or tips please tell me. Also can you tell me which version is easiest? All help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Congratulations on learning how to knit!
There are some great instructional videos to learn how to purl right here at Knitting Help:

You will want to use the very 1st or 2nd one, depending on whether you knit Continental (hold yarn in left hand & use needles to make the stitches) or English (yarn is by your right needle, you use your hand to throw the yarn around a needle to make sts).

Here is a site with diagrams, they might help if you can't quite catch what is done on the video:

Good luck!

To make a purl st, insert your needle from the back to the front, the opposite of inserting for a knit stitch. Then wrap the same direction you do when making a knit, and pull it through to the back. It may take you some practice to get it to go right, but that's how we all learned.
