Need to bind off and cast on in middle of row
I am making the Boat-Neck Tank from S/S 2007 Knit Simple Magazine. It is knit from the bottom front to the bottom back. Then the sides are seamed. To make the neck opening requires binding off 41 ribbed sts in the middle of one row, then casting on 41ribbed sts in the middle of the next row. I need a sturdy but elastic, good looking, matching bind off and cast on that works in the middle of a row.

I tried binding off in pattern and casting on with the backward loop method. The bind off and cast on look totally different and the loop cast on is too loopy, stretchy and uneven over 41 sts.

I would bind off in pattern and cast on with the backward loop cast on. (video link) It's REALLY elastic and about the only one that works in the middle of the row.

But that many sts cast on by backward loop tend to be too loopy and may leave leftover yarn when you knit back over them. Try the cable cast on, but done very loosely.
