Searching for the perfect hat yarn .....

I am planning to knit a hat and scarf for my five-year-old little boy. He wants it to be blue (navy would best match his jacket)

He is super sensitive to anything "itchy" or "scratchy"

He has admired the nicu baby hats that I have made out of Wendy Peter Pan Tinkerbell, and Velvet Touch. Also, he liked a baby hat I made from Sirdar, Snuggy Bubbly. These are all super soft, polyester yarns. I am currently making a hat for my daughter with Wendy Peter Pan Tinkerbell, but the yarn does not come in any boyish colors.

I had looked at Polar Knit Fleece online, but I read that it can be difficult to work with. I am a new knitter, so the reviews I read made me shy away.

Any suggestions for something super soft, that comes in colors other than baby colors?
