novice sewer

i am lucky if i can thread a needle and my dad was a tailor
and went out of his way not to let me learn
and i am very sorry about this
so i have about dozen tshirt type tops that are to long
i would like to shorten them
i know i can cut them and sitich a hem
no sewing machine and cleaners charges about 10.00 ea
i would like to hand finish the hem
is it possible
any help would be much appreciated

I wouldn't bother hand-finishing, myself, but definitely use a very stretchy stitch if you do, and baste before you hem, as knit can slip around on you.

i will try withone top and i hope it works
these tops were pricey and i hate to throw them out
being short i am 5 foot tall all things are a way to short
