How to twist your carrying color without tangeling your yarn?
I know there is a way to pick up your carrying color (I need to twist every three stitches) that does not tangle your yarn, but I can't figure out how to do it. Can anyone help?

Just loosely twine your 2 colors around each other once. If your yarns are on bobbins rather than full skeins, that will help.

If your stranding and 'catching' the yarn, try this. . .

Insert you needle for the next stitch. Bring the yarn you need to catch under the yarn that's in use and wrap it over the right needle tip from back to front (as opposed to wrapping it for knitting). Then wrap your next working stitch and unwrap the one you're carrying.

It may take a little getting used to, but it works like a charm.

If you must twist...
Alternately you can keep the two skeins or balls in a plastic grocery bag, when you get a few twists pick the bag up by the handles and spin it so it untwist the two strands of yarn. It will wrap the about the handles but they will fall out right when you let go of the bag. Best to take the first twist slowly so you know your spin is in the right direction.

If you spin it too much and it starts to twist up again, no worries! You are just ahead of the game and as work the twist you make will untwist the strands from your yarn bag.
