Advanced kitchener???

ok i can usually wiz thro a kitchener pretty easily.

UNTILL.....

i need my pieces to match up. It really hasn't bothered me untill now. (the whole off 1/2 a stitch off... thing)

Ive scoured the net and found only people who "talk" about the problem and say what they did. but gave no instruction. The general idea is, you have to "fudge" the first stitch on the needle closest to you. But how? k2tog? or what? and what do you do with the last stitch on the needle farthest from you on the other end?

You should always use the same number of stitches on both needles for kitchener. I'm not entirely sure how to fix it, but maybe just go through the last stitch so it doesn't run and then weave in the ends?

Did you ever find an answer to your question, other than "fudging it"?? I am trying to join a rib/cabled cowl top to bottom, and that half-stitch difference makes it look powerful-ugly!
