Help! Stuck in Swallowtail Lace Shawl - Evelyn Clark Design
This beautiful download was a free download from www.evelynclarkdesigns.com.

I have ripped and restarted this shawl 3 times and am determined to finish it.

I am at the end of row one of the 3rd budding lace repeat and find that I only have 7 stitches left. I started the row with 57 stitches. I have been placing markers after each repeat but still ended up short. Are all rows supposed to end up exact?

Does anyone have the row counts for each section?

Thank you for any help you can give me.

Each right side row appears to increase the stitch count by 4 and row 1 of the first repeat ends with 35 stitches. At the rate of 4 stitches per row, the count would be 39, 43, 47, 51, 55, 59, etc.

With this pattern, I believe that you shouldn't have stitches left over. You likely made an error somewhere.

I'd suggest using a lifeline. Thread a thin piece of contrasting yarn or even dental floss through the stitches on the needle after you complete a section repeat that you know is correct. The lifeline runs through the stitches so you can rip out to that point if you need to.

When I am working lace, I will often 'read' the chart backward as I purl the wrong side rows to make sure that I didn't miss a yo on the previous row. This is easy to correct since you can knit into the bar between the stitches to make up for it.

Many, many thanks Ingrid. I finally realized that I was repeating each full row rather than just the repeats. I think many of us who aren't used to charts need extra instruction. Thank you again for your help.

Swallowtail shawl budding lace two extra stitches
I hope someone can help me. I have completed the frist six rows of the budding lace pattern. I have 39 stitches on my needle starting the second repeat row 1. Following the pattern I end up with two extra stitches 45 stitches (in stead of the 43 stitches at the end of row one). I have gone over and over what I have done, but I never get further than this.
I am sure it is something very simple and I am making it more difficult than the pattern is. I would be very grateful if some one could just let me know what I am doing wrong.
