Help with this sock pattern

okay, i'm trying to knit this http://www.garnstudio.com/lang/en/vi..._id=48&lang=us
and i understand everything except you see how your supposed to do the lace pattern all around in the beggining but then you start to decrease which means in some sections it will get mess up. do you think i should do the lace all aroud or just stockenette in the back and decrease those? do you understand what i'm saying cause its hard to explain and the picture they give you isn't much help.

It would seem to me that if the instructions tell you to make decreases while doing a pattern stitch that the decreases would work with the pattern and not throw the pattern off. Follow the instructions as written and there shouldn't be any problems.
