increases in p1 k1 ribbing
I am knitting a doggie sweater, and the pattern says to increase 1 st at beginning and end of row of k1 p1 ribbing. What method of increase do I use? How do I continue the ribbing with the increased stitches?

I would use the kfb increase and continue the ribbing across the row.
If the row ends with a purl stitch, then you can purl into the front and back of that stitch.
