Ok as you can see it has two pattern panels A and B, i have worked up to:
These 4 rows set the patt. Cont in patt working
correct patt panel rows until back measures
55(56:57:58:59:60)cm from cast on edge,
ending with a WS row.
I understand that the 4 rows are th pattern and to cont till back is 55 cm (doing small) but what about the other rows in the pattern panels from 5th row what are they used for because it says use patt thoughout.

Can you please help with this and i know i am more and likely being stupid.

Many thanks

Each panel has it's own number of rows.

You work the panel repeats as

B A B A B A B A B

Panel A has 28 rows.

Panel B has 12 rows.

So far you've worked 4 rows of each pattern and should be able to see the pattern start forming and have an idea what to do. That's what 'setting the pattern' means.

At this point, you'll work rows 5 of the patterns in the same order that you started and continue from there.

I find that when panels have different numbers of rows, it works to make a chart so I can know what row I'm on in which pattern. When you finish row 12 of panel B, you'll go back to row 1, but will be on row 13 for panel A.
