Error...pattern or me?

What do you do when you think that a pattern has errors in it? I'm not experienced enough to figure out how to fix it. I think there is an error because I've worked the pattern, ripped it out, then worked the pattern out on paper by drawing 31 "sticks" and marking off the stitches and still can't get it to work out right.

I have 31 stitches on the needle for this portion, the directions are: P2, *(KPK all in one st, p3tog) 3 times, p2, rep from *once more, K1, sl (place marker).

Can anyone help me with this?

What isn't coming out right? The increases (kpk) and p3tog decrease balance out. Do you have a link to the pattern? You can google for 'errata (pattern name)' and see if there are any corrections.

I got to thinking... you might be misinterpreting it. The kpk is done in one stitch, the p3tog is over the next 3 sts. Those are repeated 3 times. So they use up 4 sts, times 3 is 12 and a k2 after them for 14 and you repeat all of it again. That gives you 28 sts, plus the 2 at the beg and 1 at the end for 31. So the numbers work out.

Does the slip stitch come from the next section? Or is it the marker you're supposed to slip? If you can type out the whole row, that may help us figure it out.

That may be my problem...it may not be a stitch at all just to move the marker...

Yes, that's 'slip marker'.
