How to start stockinette stitch after garter row?

Hi, Newbie knitter here, and probably a dumb question. But pattern calls for 8 rows of garter stitch. Then change to stockinette stitch. So I have purls facing me, do I purl this row, or knit it???

when you get done with your eighth row of garter, just start doing all knits..

I thought stockinette was knit a row, and purl a row, alternating...?

Not when working in the round. When you knit on circulars you are always working on the right side. Stockinette worked flat is k one row & purl the next. But since circulars are always the RS, you knit all the rows to make stockinette.
