Knitted Measurements Vs. Finished Measurements

I am starting a new sweater (Debbie Bliss) & I am trying to decide on a size. To choose from there are "knitted measurements" & there are "finished measurements". There is a BIG difference between the two. Which one do I choose?? Apparently the sweater is supposed to be oversized....so I don't want it too small. I am soooooooo confused!!!

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated! I have been knitting for 2 years & have never experienced this problem - or maybe I just never paid attention to it - LOL!

Finished measurements should be the actual size of the sweater when done. I would think 'knitted' measurements would be the same, unless it's a way of stating the actual size of the person. What's the name of the pattern, what's your bust measurement and what are the two measurements for each size? That might give us a little more information to help you.

It's the Debbie Bliss Tab Button jacket.
The Knitted Measurements are: 34, 38, 42, 46
The Finished measurements are: 44, 48, 52, 56

My actual full bust size is about 43" (not the band). So I was going for the 46" knitted because I don't want the sweater to be tight. However, a finished measurement of 44" or even 48" would be perfect!

So, what do I do now?

The sizing notes say: To fit bust 34-36in, 38-40in, 42-44in and 46-48in. So the 42/44" is supposed to come out at 52". But if you want it to be 48", then make the 38-40" size. In comments by people who made it, they said it was too big, even going down a size or two.

I guess I should make it the 44" & hope it doesn't come out too big.

I'd go with the 38". Check your gauge and divide the sts per inch into the number of stitches at the bust. See what that comes out to. Many people commented that it was pretty baggy.
