That's ok, when I started making my first socks about a year ago, I would get to the heel flap and when I did my short rows I would always end up with one extra stitch. I just could not figure out what I was doing wrong. I would tear it all out and redo do it paying close attention to the pattern, etc, but nope, kept having that extra pesky stitch. I probably made7-8 pairs of socks just knitting that last stitch together with the previous one since I could not figure out why I was not getting it right. Well, duh, light bulb moment a few months ago when I started socks for my grandson. I am left handed and knit left handed and as such when I get to the short rows, I have to start on a PURL row for them to come out right! I now have perfect heels on my socks! I seem to be a bit slower on the uptake than most people I guess!
