Confused with this row.

I am making a baby jacket to match my baby blanket (I finished it! ) and while I was working on it it said this:
• Row 7: Work in Stockinette stitch (knit 1 row, purl 1 row). Work until piece measures 7 from beginning.

Does it mean in till it is seven inches long, the whole peice, or seven inches from where the Stockinette stich began?
