sock confusion :(
I know i need to do a short row but I'm totally CONFUSED!!!

I've done the ankle and I'm turning into the heel. I've got 24 stitches on the heel and the other 24 divided on the other 2 needles (set has 5, I started pattern on 4 w/ 5th working)

R1:WS:P14, p2tog, p1. Turn, leaving rem sts unworked.
R2:RS: sl 1, p6, k5, ssk, k1, turn. (are the unworked stitches on the 4th needle??)
R3: Sl1, k7, ssk, k1, turn.
R4: Sl 1, k7 ssk 1 turn.

R5: Sl1, p8, p2tog, p1, turn. (still w/out the other stitches??)
R6: SL1, K9, ssk, k1, turn.

R7: Sl1, p10, p2tog, p1 turn.
R8:Sl1, k11, k1, turn
R9: Sl1, p 12, p2 tog, p1, turn
R10: Sl1, k12, ssk--14sts....

As I read (prob wrong ) I have 7 st on the 4th needle after I do r1. and there I lost it...I have 16 sts on needle 3 at the end of r1 but r2 only works 9? HUH????

I'm at work or I'd check Silvers...They have it blocked as Porn???? What on EARTH?

Okay, I did look at Silver's Sock class to brush up on this. What you have written seems a little wrong in a couple of places, if not .

All 24 stitches should be on one needle. Work back and forth on those 24 and ignore the rest.

Row 1 (WS): Purl 14 (Silver says to work across 1/2 of the stitches +2 sts more: 1/2 or 24 is 12+2=14), p2tog, p1, turn to work the other direction leaving 7 stitches on the needle unworked.

Row 2 (I think it is written incorrectly and I changed it to what I think it should be.) Sl 1, k5, SSK, K1, turn. You will have 7 at this end that aren't worked, so that is even to the other end).

Row 3 should be a purl row so it should be: Sl 1, p6, p2tog (these should be the stitch on each side of the gap made from the last turn), p1, turn.

Row 4: Sl 1, k7, SSK (the 2 work will be the ones on each side of the last turning gap), k1, turn.

Row 5: Sl1, p8, p2tog, p1, turn.
Row 6: Sl 1, k9, SSK, k1, turn.

Silver says to keep working that way until all stitches are used and you work one more each row, working the two on each side of the gap together. She doesn't say to SSK, but just to K2tog.

I admit I bailed on the pattern. I got home and looked on Rav for help and everyone that had commented mentioned that it was confusing. So i tried again....still off. So I went to Silver's and looked adn tried to adapt...NOT A GOOD IDEA!!!! finally gave and frogged it and followed Silver's and now I have a hell and gusset!!!! WOOHOO...amazing what clear instructions so. I'm gonna try this pattern again after I finish this sock (maybe both in the pair ) and maybe then I'vv understand it???
